Ryan recounts the early participation of Anonymous in cyberconflict in aid of the Tunisian Revolution, using distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks. Ryan also reports the Tunisian government’s counterattacks using phishing and malware, which in some cases led to the identification and arrest of Tunisian activists, as well as the countermeasures taken by Anonymous against the government malware.
