Biggs questions whether current efforts to curb legalized bribery and end corporate personhood by amending the United States Constitution, even if successful, will be enough to overcome the dominance of corporate power in the USA. She points out that corporate power has robust, strongly redundant defenses built into the structure of the U.S. political system, leading to a game of “corporate whack-a-mole” on the part of progressive forces attempting to work within the system, even when they are prepared to amend the Constitution to stop particular abuses. Meaningful change will require wholesale alteration of the framework of the Constitution.
